Abstract

This is a study to determine animal abuse from a criminological perspective. We analyze some concepts such as: what is meant by animal rights and some issues related to abuse, cruelty to non-human animals, violence against animals as a precursor to violent crimes against humans, the development of some characteristics of serial killers who begin their criminal careers by injuring or killing animals and then replicating those practices in humans, some rulings where the so-called "spirit of perversity" is seen in the acts of cruelty typified by article 3, paragraph 7 of Criminal Law 14,346/54 on mistreatment and acts of cruelty to animals (Argentina), and finally some conclusions on the subject.
